These spring steel fasteners provide lightweight, low cost solutions to a multitude of applications where a high degree of engineering tolerance is not necessary. There are a large variety of clips and clamps, threaded and non-threaded fasteners in a vast range of shapes and sizes for fixed or floating applications. In the main they are designed for use with the sheet metal screw to provide a cheap but more satisfactory solution than just tapping through the sheet.

The advantages of the spring steel "U" nut are that it provides an inherent locking effect upon the mating screw due to the hardened spring temper. It flexes as the load is applied therefore making it an ideal fastener in any area subjected to vibration.

HSL, in line with all other manufacturers of spring steel clips, refuses to accept liability for any premature failure of any spring steel part it supplies with an Electro-Plated Finish that has been specified by the customer. This is due to uncertainty regarding the incidence of, identification of, control of and removal of Hydrogen Embrittlement.

Despite accurate processing controls, baking cannot be relied upon to guarantee removal of Hydrogen. We strongly recommend that alternative finishes be specified.
